Subterranean Termites (Reticulitermes sp.)

Subterranean Termites or Reticulitermes sp., are separated into four castes: workers, light-colored, no wings; soldiers, elongated heads and large mandibles, secondary reproductives and primary reproductives which have wings. The secondary reproductives or
Alates, form wings to eventually leave their nest (swarm) and form new colonies. This happens, generally, once a year, April - June. This is known as "Swarm" season. During a swarm, it is not unusual to find hundreds, if not thousands of dead termites in a bathtub,
kitchen, porch, garage, etc. Subterranean Termites live underground in colonies. They build "mud tubes" out of the ground soil to create a passageway in order to find food, such as wood or cellulose. Subterranean Termites need humidity and moisture at a constant level in order to survive. This is why they build "mud tubes".

Multiple colonies can be found nesting on the same property. Colonies can easily have over
1,000,000 (...That's one million!) members! Subterranean Termites are a very serious problem in the U.S. causing over $2 Billion in damage annually! Over 90% of damage is from Subterranean termites. Therefore, it is imperative to have your property treated by a professional in order to protect the structure of the building.
